By Vehicle

The Timbavati Private Game Reserve is approximately 6 hours drive by car from Johannesburg.
The roads are tarred and generally in good condition.

Take the N4 freeway past Witbank and Middelburg
Take the R540 at the Belfast turnoff.
Continue through Dullstroom, Lydenburg, and Origstad.
Continue to the Abel Erasmus pass through the JG Strydom tunnel.
Take the road signposted to Hoedspruit.
Through Hoedspruit, over the railway bridge.
Turn right at the stop street onto the R40 towards Klaserie.
Turn left after approx 7km at the Timbavati / East Gate Airport signs.
Check in at the security boom then continue for 17 km.
Cross the Klaserie River.
Check in at the Timbavati Game Reserve Control Gate.

From the main tar road, gravel roads that can be rutted and corrugated, lead to the various Lodges. Regular passenger vehicles can reach all lodges within the reserve, some roads may occasionally be difficult or impassable in the rainy season.

By Air

Daily flights from Johannesburg and Cape Town land at Hoedspruit's Eastgate Airport. Road transfers from the Airport to the various Lodges in the Timbavati can be arranged.
