Ngala, was the first private game reserve that dropped fences and became incorporated into the Kruger National Park. Ngala has exclusive traversing rights on almost 15 000 hectares of one of the most bio-diverse wildlife areas in South Africa.
Ngala Safari Lodge Accommodation at a Glance
Accommodation in twenty thatched airconditioned cottages each with private bathrooms en suite. The bathrooms have baths and showers with twin hand basins. Relax on your private veranda with views into the bush and water-hole. The exclusive Ngala Safari Suite has in addition, its own lounge, outdoor shower, separate toilet and private swimming pool. There is also a mini-bar. All chalets have soft linen on curtained beds, tinted prints and etchings which create a classic safari atmosphere in your private accommodation. In the evenings, lanterns and candles provide romantic additional illumination.
There are also numerous areas at Ngala main lodge where one can relax in comfort.
Breakfasts and lunches are served in the shade of an enormous weeping boerbean tree (Scotia). A walled, lantern lit courtyard provides sheltered meals whilst the traditional boma is wonderful for fire-lit dining. Lovely views of the water-hole from the swimming pool and sun deck.
Ngala Safari Lodge includes all meals and the guided game activities in the tariff. Guided game drives in open Safari vehicles are conducted early mornings and again afternoons into the evening. There is normally a stop when on these drives with tea / coffee and snacks on the morning game drive and sundowners on the afternoon drive. After breakfast and on request guided walks with a ranger are offered.
Ngala Private Game Reserve
Ngala, the Shangaan word for lion - Ngala Game Reserve certainly lives up to its nameand has a number of lion prides, leopard, another of the large cats frequently seen. Ngala was the first private game reserve to be incorporated into the Kruger Park and is now part of one of South Africa's most innovative conservation partnerships.
Ngala Private Game Reserve has two accommodation venues: The colonial styled Ngala Safari Lodge as well as Ngala's luxurious Tented Camp, recently refurbished in 2012. The Timbavati River, which flows only seasonally in the Ngala Game Reserve and generally only after the summer rains supports a wide diversity of species. Water is still present all year, usually approximately only one meter beneath the river's sands. Elephant often dig for the water in the river bed to source this supply leaving it open and available to other animals. The reed beds are ideal for buffalo, leopard and elephant. A wide range of species are found along this watercourse and throughout the Ngala game reserve.
